Emotions in our lives

Blake notoriously said, “Those who restrain Desire do so because theirs is weak enough to be restrained.”

In the same way that people can see a half-full glass rather than a half-empty glass (when the one logically implies the other), you will find people saying two different things. “He was too weak to control his emotions” and “His emotions were too strong for him to control them.” Again, one logically implies the other, but no one who finds it natural to say one of them will happily accept the other.

This is another important difference between people’s habits of interpretation—and one which can prove awkward.
